If you're a fan of combat games like Call of Duty, you're going to love Airsoft. It's just like Call of Duty but this time, you get to hold a real gun (sort of) and you get to shoot real people (not shoot them dead but you get the drift). The game may be fun but it's not simple. It's a combat strategy game. Certain skills are needed. But most importantly, it requires a really powerful Airsoft gun. Below are the different types of Airsoft guns and a brief pointer to see if this is the right gun for you.

1. Airsoft AssauIt Rifles

AssauIt rifles would be the ARX160, M4, and AK47, among others. The reason we started with this one is that they are the most common Airsoft guns on the market. It is one of the simplest guns to use.

It has Standardization Agreement (STANAG) magazines. This means if you run out of Ammo you can reload using the Ammo of your teammates.

2. Airsoft SMGs

These are light and compact guns. You're going to love using them when playing in close-range quarters. They are also easier to carry around compared to assault rifles.

Every SMG is different. This means if you choose to play using an SMG, you need to commit to a single type. If you change SMG types, a different technique is needed to make the most of it.

3. Airsoft Machine Guns

These are heavy equipment with much larger magazines. Due to its size, You'll just be using the machine gun on the ground with the help of a tripod or bipod. If you don't want to play the field and would rather cover for your mates, a machine gun would be an excellent choice. That's the beauty of machine guns.

4. Airsoft Handguns

These are probably the Airsoft guns that you popularly see in most advertisements. These are the pistols and revolvers that should always be integrated into your equipment aside from your long arms.

Handguns are certainly a low grade compared to long arms but they are quite helpful during situations when you need to move flexibly.

5. Airsoft Shotguns

It's last on our list but this is actually the most popular option for Airsoft players. A shotgun will usually let you fire multiple shots at an opponent simultaneously. This characteristic alone makes it a valuable choice for players since this gives them an edge when they are stuck in a tight scenario.

  1. Airsoft Sniper Rifles

Sniper rifles are long rifles with excellent optics. In the case of Airsoft, however, Sniper rifles are just as good as any other rifles so you don't get to eradicate your opponents from a distance but they can also give you a strategic advantage when it comes to shooting down key players from the other team.

Key Takeaways

Well, there you go. The Airsoft guns we talked about are the key gun types that every Airsoft beginner needs to get familiar with. I didn't get into the detail of which gun would be the best to use in which scenarios because I think the decision should vary per person. Each player has a strategy all of his own. But the description of the guns alone is sufficient to help you decide what gun you want to start with on your first Airsoft game.
