ASUNCION, Jan. 19 (Xinhua) -- Portland Timbers midfielder Cristhian Paredes has been recalled to Paraguay's squad for World Cup qualifiers against Uruguay and Brazil, the Paraguayan Football Association said on Wednesday.
The 23-year-old replaces Andres Cubas, who was ruled out of the matches after suffering a broken leg while playing for French Ligue 1 outfit Nimes.
Paredes, who has six Paraguay caps, has not represented his country since coming on as a late substitute in the team's 1-1 draw with Slovakia in October 2019.
Paraguay will host Uruguay on January 27 before visiting Brazil five days later.
The Guaranies are currently ninth in the 10-team South American qualifying group with 13 points from 14 matches.
